New NYC Fire Code

Effective July 1, 2008 New York City launched new Building and Fire Codes.  The new Fire Code has some rule changes that may affect operations in existing laboratories (see Table 1 ) as well as the design and layout of newly-constructed and renovated laboratories (Table 2).

Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) has been working with the FDNY to obtain clarification on certain issues in the new Code which may impact laboratories.  The tables below reflect new Code requirements for both existing and new/renovated laboratories as of October 22, 2008.

Changes and further clarifications will be posted upon receipt of FDNY decisions – please check back often
